Kashi Kollective get their name from the holy city of Banaras in India, which originally was known as Kashi, Sanskrit for Illuminated. The city is an incredible mixture of rich and poor, old and young, and happens to be the spiritual mecca for Hindus. It also has a rich history of making music, and many of the finest musicians of our time hail from this city. When the traveler lands on the banks of the Ganges, often they are lured to take a boat ride along its shores in a rowboat, an experience one will never forget as you pass temples, ashrams, ancient fortresses and endless bathers and pilgrims.
Between these songs are soundscapes of this magical journey, from the oars hitting the water, the birdsong and the sadhus chanting their mantras, you can experience this journey as well.
The Dalai Lama is included three times providing some very insightful messages, and children recite an old Cree Indian prophecy. As well, the first day cries of Kashi, the son of Stephen Bellm can be heard on ‘Crescent in the Sky.’
The album is composed by Stephen Bellm, who performs on piano, guitar and tabla. It is laced with beautiful performances from David Mages on flute and sax, as well as numerous vocalists and other instrumentalists.
This is a must have World Fusion Album that will brighten your day and bring peace and happiness. Enjoy!
